Frenchman's Creek by Daphne du Maurier, 1970 This modern deluxe binding had cracked along the joints, the bonded leather covering had failed and the decorated spine piece was separated from the rest of the book.
The spine piece was internally reattached with Japanese tissue V-hinges to mimic the original hollow mechanics and reduce stress to the bonded leather. The joints were then patched with strips of acrylic-toned Japanese tissue to soften the visual damage and further strengthen the joints.
