Johnson's Dictionary, Improved by Todd, 1828This early 19th-century dictionary had survived fire, water, and insect damage on top nearly 200 years of wear, and was deserving of a fresh, tight, historically sympathetic rebinding.
The thoroughly damaged textblock was disbound and the pages were washed to remove stains and acidity from the fragile paper. After mending, guarding, and resewing, the repaired textblock was rebound in full undyed calfskin, decoratively stained, labeled, and hand-tooled using historical techniques.
