A Child's History of England
by Charles Dickens
Hickling, Swan & Brewer, Boston; 1859
Dedicated by Dickens "My own dear children, whom I hope it may help, bye and bye, to read with interest larger and better books on the same subject". Covering a period from 50 BC up through the accession of Queen Victoria in 1689, the history was originally published serially from January 1851 to December 1853 in "Household Words", a weekly magazine with Dicken's himself edited. After several multi-book releases, the text was compiled into Hickling, Swan & Brewer's first American single-volume edition in 1856.
This is the second edition of that work, identical to the previous excepting green cloth covers in place of brown. Some scuffs, toning to the boards and spine, joint cloth starting, but very solid and clean throughout.
